Coming of Age 2022

About Coming of Age

City of Refuge Ministries held their first Coming of Age program in 2014, an opportunity to children growing up at the children's village and beyond, to experience a Christ-centered rites of passage into adulthood. The program has continued to grow and develop over the years.

Highlights from Coming of Age 2022

With the help of friends of the ministry, volunteers and staff, we have been able to continue to offer our programs every other year for students 15-17 years of age, coming from City of Refuge itself, its surrounding communities, and in 2021, widening into a multi-cultural

venture.

This week-long initiation process focuses the youth involved in several key components: character development, biblical truth, and real life skills. Lessons are taught by a variety of local staff as well as incoming volunteers. There is an important element of practicality

to each lesson, focusing on hands-on activities, service projects, team-building, and authentic honesty with the purpose of creating safe spaces for the students to be engaged and cared for while also consistently being pointed to the truth of God's Word.

Our prayer is that each participant will be sent out with a truer understanding of who they are in Christ, be given the tools to engage in a personal relationship with their Creator that is living and active, develop skills they may need for the future, and create friendships that will last a lifetime.

*Special thanks to our partners Heartbeat for Africa who came to help facilitate this year's program and Black Rock Church who sponsored our students.
